Paula Deen Touts Recent Weight Loss

Paula Deen's fans noticed something different about her at the 2012 South Beach Wine and Food Festival in Miami on Sunday: She's looking noticeably thinner.

The Queen of Southern cooking, who was recently criticized after she revealed she's had Type 2 Diabetes for three years, says she's already shed two sizes.

"I've dropped two pant sizes and I feel great!" Deen, 65, said, crediting a health regime that includes walking 30 minutes a day and eating smaller portions.

Paula Deen Losing Weight?

Deen hosted a brunch that included a menu of fried chicken, waffles, jambalaya cooked by her husband and a strawberry margarita mousse prepped by Robert Irvine.

She told fans during her cooking demo that she isn't sure what she weighs.

"We don't own a scale in our house," she says. "Every six months I go for a physical and find out. Now it's time to see the doctor. She'll be happy if I've lost weight."

Both the cook and her family are pleased with results.

"Doesn't she look nice?" son Bobby said. "She has a little more pep in her step now. She'd been guilty of being a little too sedentary – like a lot of people."

Deen told fans, "It's amazing how good getting up and moving makes you feel."

Meat Loaf - Hell In A Handbasket Review

Artist: Meat Loaf
Album: Hell In A Handbasket
Label: Sony Music
Out Now
Rating: 3/5

Meat Loaf has enjoyed a career that has spanned over forty years but his new record Hell In A Handbasket is his most personal record yet.

Yes for the first time we are getting the emotions and opinions of music icon as opposed to singing through character as he has done on previous albums.

There is a real experimental feel to this new album as he tries new styles; it?s perhaps less rock and roll than the albums that have gone before.

With songs of Mad Mad World and Stand In The Storm Meat is singing about struggle and difficulties facing society today.

But Hell In A Handbasket is not a political record in any way shape of form Meat is simply revealing his thoughts and feelings.?

There is also a great cover of California Dreamin? on the album he has really slowed the song down, compared to the Mamas & Papas version, and he has made this song really his own.

There are also great vocals from Patti Russo on the track and this is best vocal performance from Meat on the entire album.

There are also some great contributions from Chuck D, Trace Adkins and Lil Jon on Mad Mad World and Stand In The Storm

This is a solid record from Meat but apart from some great guitar work in Live Or Die there is not real stand out moment on this album - however it is a good listen.

The songs just lack that panache and punch of his best known records - but it is great to see him tackling new styles and sounds.

I don?t dislike Hell In A? Handbasket, in fact I like the honesty with which Meat sings and it?s great to see him really reveal what he thinks and feels.

Hell In A Handbasket fits nicely into Meat?s back catalogue but it is not up with with some of his most popular records.

Meat Loaf?s album Hell In A Handbasket is out now

Joseph Pilates | NY Essay

The founding of Pilates can be traced back to the German born
fitness leader, Joseph H. Pilates, who developed the Pilates exercise system

in the 1920s. His interest in physical fitness stemmed from a determination
to strengthen his own body and improve his health after an unhealthy
childhood. With a background in yoga, Zen meditation and martial arts,
combined with success as a gymnast, diver and boxer, he was able to devise
a unique sequence of movements that worked the mind and body, in
harmony. Joseph was convinced that his philosophy of combining mind and
muscle, was one, many steps ahead of the times .
Joseph had the opportunity to fine-tune his wellness regimen while
interning in England during the First World War, claiming it helped him and
his fellow internees resist an influenza epidemic. Working in an infirmary,
he engineered a way to rig springs on hospital beds to offer light resistance
exercises to bedridden patients, and thus the seed for Pilates equipment

was
planted.
After the war, Joseph Pilates moved to New York, where he and his
wife opened their first Pilates studio near the New York City Ballet in 1926.
It wasn?t long before he drew a following of dancers, who took to Pilates for
its ability to create long, lean muscles and a strong, sleek physique.Legends
Martha Graham and George Balanchine were among his clientele. He
eventually published a book on his philosophical approach to exercise, ? ?Return
to Life Through Contrology?, and soon thereafter, some of his students began
opening studios of their own ? often with subtle adaptations to the method ? and
word of Pilates slowly spread.
However, it wasn?t until recently, during the 1990?s that the
resurgence of popularity in ancient health and wellness techniques such as
Yoga and Tai Chi, paved the way for wide expansion of interest in Pilates.
The mind-body movement took off as baby boomers started seeking
gentler paths to health and?

Cancer's Growing Burden: Rising Cost Of Care

-- Patti Tyree was afraid that cancer would steal her future. Instead, the cost of treating it has.

She had hoped to buy a small farm with money inherited from her mother. But copayments for just one $18,000 round of breast chemotherapy and one shot of a nearly $15,000 blood-boosting drug cost her $2,000.

Bills for other treatments are still coming, and almost half of her $25,000 inheritance is gone.

"I supposedly have pretty good insurance," said Tyree, 57, a recently retired federal worker who lives near Roanoke, Va. "How can anybody afford this?"

Forty years after the National Cancer Act launched the "war on cancer," the battle is not just finding cures and better treatments but also being able to afford them.

New drugs often cost $100,000 or more a year. Patients are being put on them sooner in the course of their illness and for a longer time ? sometimes for the rest of their lives. The latest trend is to use these drugs in combination, guided by genetic tests that allow more personalized treatment but also add to its expense.

It's not just drugs: Radiation treatment is becoming more high-tech, and each leap in technology has brought a quantum leap in expense. Proton therapy is one example ? it costs twice as much as conventional radiation and is attracting prostate cancer patients despite a lack of evidence that it is any better.

The financial strain is showing: Some programs that help people pay their bills have seen a rise in requests, and medical bills are a leading cause of bankruptcies.

"Patients have to pay more for their premiums, more for their copayments, more for their deductibles. It's become harder to afford what we have, and what we have is becoming not only more costly but also complex," said Dr. Michael Hassett, a cancer specialist and policy researcher at Dana-Farber Cancer Institute in Boston.

Insurers also are being squeezed by laws that require coverage and restrict raising premiums. And the burden is growing on Medicare, which in some cases is paying for treatments and tests that have not been shown to benefit patients.

Why have costs escalated so much?

To some extent, it's the price of success.

Cancer deaths have been declining in the United States since the early 1990s. Two out of 3 people now live at least five years after a cancer diagnosis, up from 1 out of 2 in the 1970s, according to the American Society of Clinical Oncology, doctors who treat the disease. Nine out of 10 women with early-stage breast cancer are alive five years after their diagnosis and are probably cured.

Modern treatments have fewer side effects and allow patients to have a greater quality of life than chemotherapy did in the past. But they are far more toxic financially.

Of the nation's 10 most expensive medical conditions, cancer has the highest per-person price. The total cost of treating cancer in the U.S. rose from about $95.5 billion in 2000 to $124.6 billion in 2010, the National Cancer Institute estimates. The true tab is higher ? the agency bases its estimates on average costs from 2001-2006, before many expensive treatments came out.

Cancer costs are projected to reach $158 billion, in 2010 dollars, by the year 2020, because of a growing population of older people who are more likely to develop cancer.

That's the societal cost. For individual patients, costs can vary widely even for the same drug. Dr. Bruce Roth, a cancer specialist at Washington University in St. Louis, tells of Zytiga, a prostate cancer medicine approved last year. It costs $6,100 a month and insurers differ on how much they cover.

"I've had one patient pay $1.50 copay a month and another patient be quoted $5,943," Roth said. Now whenever he hears about a promising new cancer drug, he worries it will be another case "where finances end up determining who gets it."

Tyree, the woman from Virginia, said the hospital billed her insurer $14,865 for Neulasta, a shot to boost white blood cells and help her tolerate chemotherapy. Several cancer specialists said Neulasta usually costs less than half that amount, but the charge was $12,000 for Tyree's friend and blog postings by other cancer patients tell similar stories.

The worst part: A much cheaper alternative is available ? a different formulation of Neulasta ? but many patients aren't offered that option. There's even a cheaper way to get Neulasta, but hospitals make a lot of money giving the shot instead of teaching a patient or a caregiver how to do that.

Tyree said doctors told her Neulasta was "completely routine and everybody got it." She had no idea how much she and her insurer would have to pay for it until the bill came.

A recent American Cancer Society survey found that one-quarter of U.S. cancer patients put off getting a test or treatment because of cost, the group's chief medical officer, Dr. Otis Brawley, writes in his new book "How We Do Harm," which discusses costs and argues for more rational use of health care. One out of 5 survey respondents over 65 said they had used all or much of their savings on cancer care.

The burden hits hard on the middle class ? people too well off for programs that cover the poor but unable to afford what cancer care often costs.

Dr. Amy Abernethy, director of the cancer care research program at Duke University, did a study of 250 such patients from around the country. Most were women with breast cancer, including Tyree. All but one had insurance, and two-thirds were covered by Medicare. The vast majority also had prescription drug coverage.

Their out-of-pocket expenses averaged $712 a month for doctor visits, medicines, lost wages and travel to appointments. To pay for cancer drugs, half spent less on food and clothes, and 43 percent borrowed money or used credit. Also, 26 percent did not fill a prescription, 22 percent filled part of one and 20 percent took less than prescribed.

"Patients don't just have cancer, and that's becoming more and more of a problem" because they also are struggling to buy medicines for heart disease, diabetes and other conditions, Abernethy said.

The challenge will grow as the newest trend in cancer care takes hold: using the new, gene-targeting drugs in combination. There has been limited success using them one at a time ? they tend to buy a few more months or a year or two of life but usually are not cures.

"Almost certainly we will have to use multiple drugs" to shut down all of a tumor's pathways rather than just the main one attacked by a single drug, said Dr. Allen Lichter, the oncology society's chief.

Ironically, "one of the answers to making cancer therapy more cost-effective is to find these targeted agents" and use genetic tests to narrow down which patients really benefit instead of giving them to everyone with a particular type of cancer, Lichter said. For example, the new lung cancer drug Zalkori targets a gene that is present in only 5 percent of lung cancers, but it helps 60 percent of those patients.

Here's where things get sticky. Desperate patients often demand treatments that have a very small chance of helping them. And many doctors feel they have a duty to offer anything that might help, regardless of the cost to insurers and society, said Hassett, the policy researcher from Boston.

An example is the outcry over the government's recent withdrawal of approval of Avastin for breast cancer. Studies showed the drug did not improve survival for most women and there are no biomarkers to identify the few it does help. Many doctors and patients still want access to the drug, and Medicare is still paying for it.

But denying "useless" treatment isn't just about saving money ? it's about avoiding harm and false hope, Brawley writes in his book. "A rational system of health care has to have the ability to say no, and to have it stick," he contends.

Cost can still be a concern long after initial treatment. Many breast cancer patients take medicines for five years to prevent a recurrence. Tyree, the woman from Virginia, is about to start on one of these, Arimidex. It is newer and somewhat more effective than tamoxifen, a medicine long used to prevent cancer's return, but it is also more expensive.

If insurance covers only part of it, "I'll have to pay," Tyree said. "And I don't have any idea how much it is."

UN atomic agency: Iran rapidly expands nuke work

(AP) ? Iran has rapidly ramped up production of higher-grade enriched uranium over the last few months, the U.N. nuclear agency said Friday, in a confidential report that feeds concerns about how quickly the Islamic republic could produce an atomic bomb.

The International Atomic Energy Agency report also said Iran failed to give a convincing explanation about a quantity of missing uranium metal. Diplomats say the amount unaccounted for is large enough to be used for experiments in arming a nuclear missile.

Iran insists it is not interested in nuclear weapons and says its activities are meant either to generate energy or to be used for research.

But the report contained little assurances the country's activities are purely peaceful. Instead, it also confirmed that two IAEA missions to Tehran within less than a month had failed to dent Iran's refusal to assist an IAEA probe of suspicions the country has been secretly working on aspects of a nuclear weapons program.

The IAEA team had hoped to speak with key Iranian scientists suspected of working on the alleged weapons program, break down opposition to their plans to inspect documents related to nuclear work and secure commitments from Iranian authorities to allow future visits.

But the confidential report said that during those two sets of talks "no agreement was reached between Iran and the agency, as major differences existed with respect to approach."

The report obtained by The Associated Press said the agency continues to have "serious concerns regarding possible military dimensions to Iran's nuclear program."

The issue of suspected weapons-related experiments has been stalled for close to four years, with Iran insisting the allegations are based on doctored intelligence from the U.S., Israel and elsewhere.

Ali Asghar Soltanieh, Iran's chief delegate to the IAEA, insisted progress was made.

"Iran has started real action and cooperation with the agency regarding ... the allegations," he told the AP. "We are determined to work hard with the agency in a professional manner to resolve the issues."

Senior international officials familiar with the talks painted a different picture. One said that during the last talks, which ended Tuesday, the IAEA team gave the Iranians a 15-page document outlining their concerns, and they "went through item and item and said they were false and fabricated."

"Sixty-five paragraphs, 65 'no's," said the official, when asked how the Iranian side responded to each item of concern presented by the agency. He asked for anonymity because his information was privileged.

The IAEA team was comprised of senior officials, but the international sources described the Iranian negotiating team as "go-betweens," with no authority to commit to cooperating with the agency's probe.

In a 13-page summary late last year, the IAEA listed clandestine activities that he said can either be used in civilian or military nuclear programs, or "are specific to nuclear weapons."

Among these were indications that Iran has conducted high-explosives testing to set off a nuclear charge at Parchin ? a military site that the IAEA team was refused access to on both recent visits to Iran.

Other suspicions include computer modeling of a core of a nuclear warhead and alleged preparatory work for a nuclear weapons test and development of a nuclear payload for Iran's Shahab 3 intermediate range missile ? a weapon that could reach Israel.

The report said Iran appeared to have a structured weapons-development program up to 2003; that some work continued past that date, "and that some may still be ongoing," adding that the agency believes its information on which its suspicions are based is "overall, credible."

In Washington, State Department spokesman Mark Toner declined to comment on the details of the report, which he said officials were still studying, but added it contained "nothing that has allayed our concerns about Iran's nuclear program."

White House National Security Council spokesman Thomas Vietor said Iran's continued uranium enrichment, "combined with its continued stonewalling of international inspectors, ... demonstrate why Iran has failed to convince the international community that its nuclear program is peaceful."

The report was issued to the IAEA's 35-nation board and the U.N. Security Council as the latest update on what the agency knows or suspects about Iran's nuclear program.

It comes amid heightened tensions caused by Iran's refusal to rein in nuclear activities that much of the world fears could be redirected toward a weapons program. A rapid series of sanctions imposed by the U.S., the European Union and others on Tehran has only increased acrimony without any sign that Iran is ready to compromise.

Instead, it has retaliated by imposing oil embargoes on Britain and France and threatening other European nations that act against it with similar punishment, as well as bluntly warning its foes that it is ready to strike pre-emptively.

Such threats are clearly directed at Israel, which, along with the U.S., has not ruled out military attacks if diplomacy fails to halt Iran's nuclear drive. Washington has in recent weeks tamped down the rhetoric as it seeks to defuse tensions, but Israel refuses to follow, saying it alone will decide on what actions to take to protect its security.

In an apparent attempt at damage control before his March trip to the White House, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has ordered his ministers not to speak publicly about Iran, Israeli officials said Friday.

Israel views Iran as an existential threat, citing frequent Iranian calls for Israel's destruction, its support for violent anti-Israel militant groups and its nuclear and long-range missile programs.

Iran's refusal to scrap its uranium enrichment program is a key worry ? it had already triggered four sets of U.N. Security Council sanctions even before the recent flurry of penalties imposed separately by countries or groups of countries.

Enrichment at low levels provides reactor fuel ? but that can be turned into weapons grade material by gradually re-enriching to levels of 90 percent or more.

Iran has enriched tons of fuel-grade material since its clandestine program was discovered 10 years ago, and worries have been compounded by its decision two years ago to start enriching at a higher level that can be turned into fissile warhead material much more quickly and easily than its low enriched uranium.

Adding up verified figures and Iranian estimates, the report said that Tehran has to date produced about 110 kilograms (more than 240 pounds) of higher-level uranium enriched to 20 percent. That is about half of what it would need to arm a nuclear warhead.

And it has increased its 20-percent production capability by adding hundreds of centrifuges to a facility dug into a mountain since the last IAEA report in November, the agency said. That structure may be impervious to any bunker-busting bombs Israel has at its disposal.

One of the senior officials noted that Iran produced much of that material in the last three months, saying it had tripled its output over that time.

Beyond that, Iran has added about 2,600 centrifuges producing lower-enriched uranium below 5 percent since that last IAEA report, so that about 9,000 centrifuges are now churning out the lower-enriched material.

The report said that when verified amounts and Iranian estimates are tallied the Islamic republic has produced nearly 5,500 kilograms (more than 12,000 pounds) of lower enriched material. Although the lower-enriched material takes longer to convert, that would be enough for an additional four nuclear warheads, should Iran decide to make such weapons.

The agency already reported in November that nearly 20 kilograms (almost 45 pounds) of uranium metal were missing from Iran's inventory at a research laboratory. While that amount is too little to be molded into a nuclear warhead, diplomats have said it could be used for related experiments.

On Friday, the IAEA report said that it had requested access to records and personnel involved in the experiments that made the metal, but "Iran indicated that it no longer possessed the relevant documentation and that the personnel involved were no longer available."

(AP) ? A suspect in the shooting death of a Washington State trooper during a traffic stop early Thursday shot himself hours later as a SWAT team closed in, authorities said.

Joshua Jearl Blake was the registered owner of a pickup truck that Trooper Tony Radulescu pulled over just before he was shot to death early Thursday, and the ex-con was also known to law enforcement in the area for meth convictions, assaulting the mother of one of his children and kicking out the window of a police car.

Investigators tracked Blake to a home near Port Orchard where he shot himself as a SWAT team closed in. He was taken to Tacoma General Hospital, where authorities say he died.

Radulescu stopped the truck around 1 a.m. on Highway 16 near Gorst, about 20 miles west of Seattle across Puget Sound. He had radioed the location and license plate number, said Trooper Russ Winger.

When Radulescu didn't respond to dispatcher status checks, a Kitsap County sheriff's deputy went to the scene and found the fatally wounded trooper outside his patrol car. He was taken to St. Joseph Medical Center in Tacoma where he was declared dead.

Three hours later, officers found the truck abandoned on a county road near Port Orchard, about two miles from the shooting scene.

Investigators received a tip on where to find the registered owner and went to the home.

"As our SWAT team made their approach they heard a single gunshot," Kitsap County sheriff's Sgt. Ken Dickinson said. "They found a male subject with a single gunshot wound."

Radulescu, 44, was a 16-year veteran of the Washington State Patrol who served his entire career in the patrol's Bremerton district.

He was a military veteran with a son in the area who is a soldier, Patrol Chief John Batiste said at an early morning news conference at St. Joseph Medical Center. He was well-known and popular in the community where he often spoke in schools, Batiste said.

"It's a terrible thing to receive a phone call that one of your people is injured in line of duty. To have that compounded with a loss, it's a bad day," Patrol Chief John R. Batiste.

The chief has been consoling family and members of agency.

"They're all hurting. I'm hurting," Batiste said.

An aid car carrying Radulescu's body was escorted by dozens of patrol cars with lights flashing from the hospital to the Pierce County medical examiner's office where the autopsy would be conducted.

Boyer is a former 27-year veteran of the patrol and knew Radulescu well.

Radulescu was an immigrant from Romania who spoke five languages ? a tremendous asset in the patrol's investigations of auto theft rings with Eastern European connection, Boyer said.

Radulescu was wonderfully personable, he said.

"He could write somebody a ticket and they'd say thank you," Boyer said.

The death was the first of a trooper on duty in 13 years.

Troooper James Saunders, 31, who was shot in 1999 during a traffic stop in Pasco. Nicolas S. Vasquez pleaded guilty to aggravated murder and was sentenced to life in prison without parole.

Built from the ground up ? The Studio is a Modern, Open and Full Service Creative Boutique

NEW YORK, NY ? Following months of sweeping construction ShootersNYC, the creative multi-dimensional production and postproduction company that launched last year, has officially moved into its permanent offices in New York?s always hip Flatiron district at 156 Fifth Avenue.

The open, modern yet comfortable space features three state-of-the-art editing suites, graphics/animation suite and enough production space to handle the growing number of projects the company has been asked to not only edit and post, but produce as well.

?When we saw this beautiful historic building we knew it was perfect for us,? Jeff Beckerman, ShootersNYC Managing Director/Executive Producer says. ?But it was crucial that we give our space a modern, yet comfortable, work environment our clients demand.?

Those clients have kept the new creative boutique ? sister company to the Philadelphia-based post/production company ShootersINC ? very busy. In addition to high profile assignments for such brands as Pepsi Max, Chex, Nature Valley and Advil, the company worked on Feed The Pig, a clever multimedia PSA campaign for the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants (AICPA) and the Ad Council. The company is currently at work on comprehensive projects for BMW and the NFL.

Last year also saw the addition of two key members of the ShootersNYC creative team ? editors Anthony Marinelli and David Smalheiser.

?2011 was a ground-breaking year for us in a lot of ways,? Beckerman adds. ?Our clients responded well to what we?re building and the fact that we perfectly bridge the feel of a creative boutique with the deep resources of a larger post house. Thanks to our relationship to ShootersINC we can handle more than a typical boutique. It?s the best of both worlds for our clients, and if 2011 is any indication, 2012 looks to be a great year.?

writing, speaking - Struggling With Your Essay? We Can Help!

Essays are an integral part of a student's life. The task of writing an essay has a number of objectives. First of all, it aims at promoting such skills as planning, brainstorming, researching, analysing and, of course, writing. These skills are first established during high school years and are further developed during one's academic career. However, not all students can master this skill effectively and many of them end up seeking essay help. This may be the right thing to do, as students may be unable to submit well written essays without professional writing help.

When Do You Need Essay Help

Many students may think that obtaining assistance with their essays is not a suitable thing to do. However, seeking professional writing assistance has its advantages and there are at least a few reasons to obtain essay writing assistance. For example, part time jobs and other obligations simply take away all the free time required for essay writing, and students cannot put all the effort in writing essays themselves; without proper preparation their grades may suffer, which can damage their overall academic record. Receiving professional essay writing assistance allows students to come up with a much better quality of writing and gives them an opportunity to concentrate on other aspects of academic life. Another possible reason for obtaining such assistance is the students' lack of writing skills or insufficient command of the language. By the way, inability to write well does not necessarily mean that students lack the knowledge and intelligence on the subject. However if a poorly written paper gets submitted and scores low, such student will get such a reputation. Obtaining essay help therefore ensures that such students do not fail their coursework and have a fair chance for completing their studies.

Help Can Come In Different Forms

Essay help may be obtained in many ways. One of the ways is getting help from professors, who may help students with their essays. Professors are ideal candidates for helping students because know exactly what they want out of an essay and can assist their students with essay writing (of course, they won't do the actual writing, but they can point the direction which your essay should take). Provided they are knowledgeable about the subject, friends and colleagues is another way of getting help with essay writing. On the other hand, professors, friends and colleagues might lack the time which is needed to assist students with their essays. Yet another way of getting essay writing assistance is via libraries. Libraries, however, also do have their advantages; specifically searching through materials and data collection can be quite a time consumer. Hence, once of the fastest and the most efficient options for students would be to seek assistance offered from online essay writing companies. Such writing services offer students a variety of services ranging from purchasing custom essays, formatting essays, structuring essays and providing ideas for essays etc.

Choose a Reputed Source of Writing Help

There are several online writing companies. Some are reputable while others are not. Therefore, when students consider getting online essay writing assistance, they need to be extremely careful about the legitimacy of the company. Assistance provided through bogus writing companies may not be the right kind of service. The qualifications and expertise of the writers should also be considered when obtaining assistance. In addition, students must consider plagiarism issues. They must ensure the company of choice does not sell plagiarised essays. The quality of such essays may be checked through the use of sample essays. Students can use the custom essays purchased from such writing services as a benchmark; these essays can help them improve their own writing in the long run.

Selecting the right essay writing company for essay help may not be an easy task. However, if a wise selection is made, high quality essay help is guaranteed.
